FS-066  Arctic Nature Experience -  Northeast Iceland

Theme/main focus: Nature; birds, whales and seals. Also a national park, culture and saga.

1^st day: The tour start in Akureyri where we will have short sightseeing and then head to accommodation for the night near Húsavík.

2^nd day: Aðaldalur, Laxárdalur and Húsavík. Whale and birdwatching tour on Skjálfandi bay in the afternoon/evening.

3^rd day: Sightseeing in Húsavík, options for visits to exhibitions and museums. After that drive through Tjörnes peninsula and Kelduhverfi to Jökulsárgljúfur. Many species of birds, seals and spectacular nature and landscape, including the national park in then canyon of Jökulsá, are highlights of the day.

4^th day: Melrakkaslétta, with visit to Kópasker. Rauðinúpur and Hraunhafnartangi amongst several others places to stop or visit. The day end in Raufarhöfn. There is an option to have a boat tour along and across the Arctic Circle. Accommodation in Raufarhöfn.

5^th day: From Raufarhöfn we head to Þórshöfn with several stops like on Rauðanes. A visit to Langanes is great and we end this day Ytra Lón.

6^th day: From Þórshöfn to Bakkafjörður and Vopnafjörður. From there we head to inland with stop at Möðrudalur with view further to the inland. From there to Mývatn were we stay for two nights. Here are planned visits to highlights of the area.

7^th day:  Mývatn and Laxá, birdwatching day.

8^th day: Drive to Akureyri in the morning with stop by Goðafoss.
