FS-111 Dyngjufjöll - Askja

Dyngjufjöll mountain range is situated to the north of its glacier namesake, which also constitutes the northernmost  extension of the largest glacier in the country, Vatnajökull. These mountains encircle the 50 km2 Askja caldera.

This tour is like prolonged version of a day tour to Askja where participants get good chance to explore this marvellous area much better.

We start the tour from Mývatn (or another agreed location), in a comfort super jeep or 4x4 truck and head directly to Herðubreiðarlindir, where we take a short stop. Then we drive to Drekagil where we will stay overnight (hut). In the afternoon, we will explore the area, climb the mountains (not technically difficult) and look around.

In the morning, we will drive short distance before starting another good hike. The last part is travel back to Mývatn, with some stops.
