FS-105 Leirhnjúkur - Dalfjall - Námafjall

We start in the morning by driving from Jarðböðin (Mývatn Nature baths) to Krafla where the hike starts on the parking by Leirhnjúkur. An easy trail leads from there to Leirhnjúkur and through the hot spring area, into craters formed in Krafla fires and to the summit of the hill. From there we keep on around Leirhnjúkur until we come to crossroad and take a route along Dalfjall (Mountain route).

This route provides an excellent view of the entire area. It is varied and interesting, and Mt. Dalfjall gives a good insight into the process of geological divergence in the area. This part of the tour is on path but bit challenging (up and down hills).

When we reach Námaskarð, we across the pass and take a trail up to Námafjall mountain and along it. To left hand side, we have the hot spring area named Hverir, one of the largest sulphur spring areas in Iceland.

The last part of the hike is down Námafjall towards Jarðböðin (the Nature Baths) where the hike ends.
