Here are some of the most remarkable fossil layers in Iceland. These are sandstone layers which were formed at the end of the Tertiary period and during the Ice Age. From these fossils it is possible to trace changes in climate, vegetation and marine life from the beginning of the Ice Age.
Tour around Tjörnes is recommended at the height of summer for a view of the midnight sun and the birdlife, rendered all the more colourful due to the presence of the puffin (until mid August).
We have two type of Tjörnes tour; from spring to fall with main focus on geology, and for spring and summer as evening tour with views to the coast, birds and sun. We have also winter season program.
