Dettifoss – Jökulsárgljúfur – The Diamond Circle – National Park
Dettifoss is Iceland's greatest and most majestic waterfall. A volume of as much as two hundred and twelve tons of icy water pour thunderously every second over its rocky edge so that the spectator senses the quiver and shake of terrain underfoot.
Dettifoss is in the glacial river Jökulsá á Fjöllum, which flows forth northwards from the glacial cap of Vatnajökull in the southeastern part of Iceland and finally ends its course in the great canyon of Jökulsárgljúfur, before opening into Öxarfjörður bay.
This whole area constitutes an integral part of Vatnajökull national park.
