Aldeyjarfoss & off the beaten track Mývatn
The waterfall Aldeyjarfoss is amongst the lovelier sites in northern Iceland, but bit off the beaten track. Aldeyjarfoss is located at the end of the highland road (Sprengisandur) once a commonly taken route across the country but nowadays more ventured by those seeking the stillness and amazing view on top of the Icelandic mountains. One interesting features of the waterfall is the contrast between the black basalt columns and the white waters cascading into the ravine. Aldeyjarfoss is in the glacial river Skjálfandafljót, one of the longest of rivers in Iceland, and in the south end of the valley Bárðardalur.
Departure options: Akureyri, Húsavík or Mývatn (or another agreed place)
