Northern Lights in High Latitudes

Experience the northern lights in the stunning surroundings of Lake Mývatn.

In North Iceland, travelers visiting the Mývatn district, will find impressive lava shaped surroundings that provide an inimitable frame and vantage point for viewing the lovely aurora borealis on a clear and frosty winter evening. A detour to the powerful waterfall Dettifoss, with its great canyon walls, provides a roaring contrast to the quiet, rural surroundings in this sub-arctic region. At the end of a great day, the traveler may want to visit the Nature Baths of Lake Mývatn, where he can, weather conditions permitting, view the dazzling display of northern lights, while soaking in the steaming geothermal water.

For the traveler, there is also a touch of coastal culture, in the adjacent town of Húsavík, a popular whale watching center for summer visitors to the area.
